🏅A family portrait right here. Kambodi Blanco By Ensar being the big brother and Zolla Soneva is the younger brother. Same family, lots of similarities yet different personalities.

🏅Zolla Soneva is one of the most approachable, wearable, likable, budget friendly and beginner friendly real oud in the market right now.

🏅The opening is honey, amber, yellow florals and a note that reminds me of a sheera. Sheera is a simple sugar syrup used in making South Asian sweets. Its very minimal. Mostly just sugar and water, cooked over low heat so the sugar is concentrated.

🏅This opening is uplifting, relaxing and just has a happy sunshine vibe to it. This is on the total opposite spectrum of the skanky dark Hindi ouds.

🏅The transitions on this oil aren’t explosive. Certain notes do shift and it is an engaging experience overall.

🏅The sweetness gives way to a sour note. Not a fresh juicy orange kind of citrus sour, but a thick marmalade kind of sour. This sour is riding on the top of the base of woodiness, a mix of birch, and guaiac woods; this is where the oil rests.

How does it differ from Ensar’s Kambodi Blanco?

Ensar’s oil takes everything here a notch up.

The sweetness in the opening is deeper. The relaxing factor goes up to mind buzz / feeling of elation. The longevity is also better in Kambodi Blanco and I get 6 to 8 hours and at the 3 hour mark the oil is actually projecting at its peak and quiet enveloping. For the Zolla Soneva you have to apply close to nose regions to appreciate the oil. (Neck, earlobes, under beard etc) if you only apply to the wrist you will not get that scent bubble and will have to keep sniffing your wrist.
